Lincoln's Inn Debating Club

All student members of Lincoln's Inn are welcome to get involved in our Debating club. The club meets in the evenings, a number of times each term. It also takes part in various internal and external competitions and selections will be held during club meetings. Most competitions are limited to those currently studying for the GDL or BPTC but those who are pre/post-BPTC are still welcome to attend the club meetings. Debating provides excellent practice for pupillage interviews and future appearances in court. Please note that only members of Lincoln's Inn are eligible to take part in the Inn's Debating Club and their activities and competitions.

Debating club takes place 6:30pm-8:30pm at 33 Chancery Lane (entrance via Rolls Passage).

Students can claim two Qualifying Sessions if they attend a total of four club meetings throughout the year (either through Mooting, Debating or a combination of both). Club meetings are free to attend, however, students will be required to pay £20 at the end of the year to receive their two Qualifying Sessions. There is no obligation for students to claim for Qualifying Sessions if they do not wish to, and they are still very welcome to attend.

Please note, when you book on to an event you should consider it a professional commitment. Students who book on to an event and either cancel at short notice or fail to show up without giving prior notice will need to explain themselves to the Education Department. If necessary, the student will be referred to a Bencher of the Inn and it may affect their eligibility to be Called to the Bar.
